From England to Italy: A Software Engineer’s journey with N-and Group

Background and role

Can you tell us a bit about your role and responsibilities at our company? How long have you been with the company, and what attracted you to join?

“I’m a Software Engineer and responsible for developing user interfaces for various clients and projects. I joined N-and Group in June 2023 and was drawn by the company’s diverse range of industries and the broad opportunities it offers its employees”.

Move to Italy

What inspired your move from England to Italy? How has the transition been for you, both personally and professionally? What are some of the biggest differences you’ve noticed between working in England and Italy?

“The weather, proximity to my home country Romania, and the delicious food were significant factors in my decision to move to Italy. The social aspects also played a role. The transition was initially challenging but exciting from a personal perspective. Professionally, the move was smoother than I expected, thanks to the support from N-and Group. One of the biggest differences I noticed is the bureaucracy in Italy, which can sometimes dampen the excitement.

Italian office experience

How has your experience been working in our Italian office so far? What do you enjoy most about the work culture in Italy?

“The experience has been fantastic! The culture is really welcoming, and I’ve enjoyed spending time with colleagues and having lunch together. I appreciate the social aspect the most, it’s so much easier to work together face-to-face than on those remote calls I used to have in the UK.

Fun facts and personal interests

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?

“Outside of work, I love traveling around Italy to explore new spots, enjoy nature, visit museums and art exhibitions, and dig into some authentic Italian pizza. I’m also passionate about sports, especially tennis, and I play the bass guitar. Exploring new places and discovering art galleries are some of my favourite activities.”

Advice and inspiration

What advice would you give to someone considering a similar international move?

“I emphasise the importance of thoroughly researching a destination’s culture, cost of living, accommodation, healthcare, and making sure all necessary visas and permits are in place. It’s essential to check out forums, blogs, and vlogs for information. For me, the toughest part was finding suitable housing and avoiding scams, so I used a reputable agency to simplify the process.”
